THE NEW NEIGHBOUR

Source: Shaheed Murtada Mutahhari, The Narrative of Veracious, Vol.1, STORY, NO.57, p.132-133
A man of Ansars (The Helpers) bought a new house in one of the neighbourhood of Madinah and moved into it.
He came to understand that an unconventional neighbour had fallen to his share. He came to the Holy Prophet (s) and said: “I have purchased a house in such and such a quarter, among so and so tribe and moved into it. Unfortunately, my nearest neighbour is a useless person, not only that, he is also ill-mannered to me. I am not safe from him. And I am not sure what means and dangers he may bring to us.
The Holy Prophet (s) entrusted four persons, namely ‘Ali (‘a), Salman, Abuzar and another one who was said to be Miqdad, He (s) conveyed loudly the following message to the people, men and women in the Mosque:
“The one whose neighbours fear his persecution has no faith.”
This announcement was repeated three times. Then the Holy Prophet (.y) pointed in four directions with his hand and said: “From each side of a house you live in up to forty houses, one should count tern as his neighbours.”
